Program Overview:

The Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS) program includes the study, application and effect of information technology to organizations. Graduates of the program should be able to implement an information system, which considers complex technological and organizational factors affecting it. These include components, tools, techniques, strategies, and methodologies. Graduates are able to help an organization determine how information and technology-enabled business processes can be used as strategic tool to achieve a competitive advantage. As a result, IS professionals require a sound understanding of organizational principles and practices so that they can serve as an effective bridge between the technical and management and user communities within an organization. This enables them to ensure that the organization has the information and the systems it needs to support its operations (CMO No. 25, 2015).

Recommended Senior High School Strand:

Students who wish to pursue a degree in Science In Information Systems are encouraged to take the Information and Communication Technology strand. The strand equips students with basic topics on illustration, web design, animation, technical drafting, and computer programming.

Program Outcome:

Graduates of Information Systems are expected to be able to::

• Apply knowledge in business processes, computing, mathematics, social sciences and other competencies in creating information systems as suitable strategic business solutions receptive to global advancement.
• Prepare graduates to demonstrate strong character to influence innovative changes in the organizations and society by exhibiting diverse skills such as transformational leadership, critical thinking, excellent service management, and effective communications for sustainable development.
• Inculcate understanding of the significance of design, development, implementation and evaluation of the various information systems and their local, regional, national and global impacts in business process improvements through technical writing, creative presentations, innovative researches and extension services, linkages and partnerships.
• Establish expertise in specific domains of information systems through industry immersion that is adaptable to technological advancements for continuous learning and development, and engage to recognize appropriate IS practices to professional, ethical and legal standards both in the local and global community.

On-The-Job Training/Internship:

Internship is an immersion program wherein the students will have the chance and opportunity to be with the IT industry. This program is important because the students will have the chance to apply the skills, knowledge and attitude learned in the school and at the same time the opportunity to experience the corporate environment. Learning expectations in the IT related field should be established between the HEI and the industry in the form of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) or Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Internship is a requirement for the BSIS program. Students are eligible to enroll the internship program after completing the 70% of the total number of units in the curriculum. The minimum number of internship hours (preferably in a full time capacity) for the BSIS program is 486 hours.
